So even though our kids got great marks in school this year, for some weird reason Cboy's teacher recommended summer school. After considering the costs and weighing the options, TriniDaddy and I will try our hand at Home Summer School! um...yeah! Totally TriniDaddy's idea...
So...I've been tasked in coming up with the curriculum. We've already gotten the workbooks and materials from his first and second grade teacher. JBoy came home with a summer packet as well. he needs help with fine motor skills like maneuvering a pencil and coloring.
On Deck:
3x Weekly Library Visits to pick a new book and read the book (Join library book reading club)
Parent-Child Book Club (select a book from the libary to read over the week and discuss on Friday)
Phonics Workbook and ClickNKids (computer assisted)
Handwriting practice
Reading Composition (Weekly Journal of Things we did over the summer)
Math Workbook practice
Museum/Zoo/Petting Farm/Nature walkTrips
Going to get the boys a child's camara and video camera so they can document the stuff they do and learn from field trips.
Cboy will keep his Piano practice once a week to keep up with his skills!
They'll have fun too because they are enrolled in summer camp. We're thinking of doing these for 1 hour in the morning before camp and for an hour in the afternoon after camp. Go on the trips in the weekend and have them fill in the journals on the weekend for 15 minutes.
GG's along for the ride...so far she is having a ball with the "Your Baby Can Read" series we got used on the internet! She's such a smart cookie and can already recognize several words
