The Christmas holiday has become quite secular as folks who rarely or do not got to church ever or arenot even Christian buy and decorate Christmas trees, exchange gifts and decorate their houses. It's all good though cause I love the season, the music, the decorations, the spirit of giving and all the lights and anticipation (Advent) leading up to the actual holiday.
It is wonderful to see how excited C-boy was to finally get a tree and decorate it this year. He loves coming home, turning off the lights and turning on the tree. I love how his eyes light up at just looking at the tree. When the weather warms a bit, I'm going to put up outdoor decorations.
Growing up, even when my Muslim father made all the kids start practicing Islam (I went to church with my Catholic mother until age 17 while my dad didn't practice his own religiont), he still always purchased a Christmas Tree for us. Let us believe in Santa Clause. Unfortunately, because they are immigrants, they NEVER GOT IT that they wer supposed to purchase gift in the name of "Santa" and put them under the tree. So so sad that every year we wake up to no gifts under the tree. :(
Eventually, they did buy gifts, but my dad would give them to me, the oldest to wrap. How anti-climactic is that?
These days, they don't decorate their house or put up a tree, but my parents and younger siblings usually come over my house to unwrap gifts. Imagine my dad enjoys getting gifts more than anyone! *snicker*.
