On Saturday, we started the day with a visit to my parents' home to spend the day with the kids' grandma...
That evening, we used the opportunity of having captive grandparents to sneak away. TriniHubby had purchased tickets for a wine tasting hosted by our alma mater. After getting good and tipsy off of an assortment of Spanish wines, we headed out to Pose nightclub and lounge, a wonderful new spot in Prince George's county. Pose features an exotic Infusion bar and breathtaking views from the wraparound terrace. We could see all the way down to the Washington Monument and could peer down at the glass enclosed shopping village that is part of the new Gaylord Resort and Convention Center at the National Harbor. Pose sits on the 18th floor high atop the Gaylord Resort. National Harbor is the latest nightlife and entertainment complex to the DC area. According to a Washington Post write up on the place, the resort is being billed as the largest non-casino hotel and convention center on the East Coast, an $870 million structure with an 18-story atrium wrapped in glass and steel overlooking the Potomac River. The resort is the cornerstone of National Harbor, one of the most anticipated commercial and residential projects in the Washington region.
With some parts still under construction, I was excited to see some areas open for business and that the community features several high end stores and hotels such as the Westin and the Wyndham. It is so refreshing for Prince George's county to see this type of upscale and high class development. I was very impressed to see all the well dressed and dapper patrons stroll into the convention hall which hosts several restaurants, eateries, and shopping spots. I got caught up in the aura of being out and about really. The transition from two to a three child household has been quite daunting and as expected but not fully appreciated was how much three kids could put a dent into an already strained social schedule.
When we arrived on the scene, we scoped out this new night club that we had heard from a friend of ours would cost $200.00 just to get in! Insane, right? There is actually usually a $20.00 cover but we got in early enough and looked cute and sophisticated enough to fit right in! The bouncers eyed us up and down and let us in Free! ha! Pose is chic and modern, graced with red, black and white wing back chairs and chrome columns, and balconies . We passed on sitting on one of the 10 sets of white sofas and the VIP lounge which require you spend a minimum of $200.00. Instead, we settled in the red high back lounge groupings and ordered a couple of their exotic small bites appetizers. The mojito I ordered left a lot to be desired for, but given that I am a mojito connoisseurs and snob, I could cut them some slack on that. We got a couple glasses of wine and cheesecake lollipops.
The DJ was awesome and pumped mainly old school R&B, soul and hip hop to the crowd that ranged from hipsters to thirty-somethings to trendsetting and designer clad gals to dudes in suits. Around 10pm, the music pumped up a notch and the dance floor began to fill as three scantily clad, yet cute outfitted dancers took to the cut out area high above in the second floor VIP area. Had we had the duckets to go up there, we could have squatted in one of several suites that come complete with private doors that can be closed for a more intimate lime.
We managed to cut the rug to burn off some of that delicious but decadent spirits and desserts. We eventually peeled out of the spot around midnight just as it began to really fill up, but we knew we had a long commute back home and a possibly awake and anxious baby waiting up and bugging my folks.
It was such a refreshing change of pace and to experience a swanky posh spot and not have to travel all the way down to DC, up to Baltimore or other counties. Sunday, we took my mom out to Smokey Bones where we got some pretty good eating for chain food. My Veggie Burger topped with portabella mushroom and sauteed onions was deeelish!!!!
Oh yeah, and Trinihubby also picked out this very lovely blouse for me and a got me a very endearing card.
Overall, I had a fabulous mom's day.
