loving yourself flaws and all

i counted 7 tiny freckled moles on my face...that is 3 more than last year. i am starting to look more like my dad who has a couple dozen of similar specks on his face.

it gives him character. i love mine too. i embrace them.

i took out my braids, washed, conditioned and moisturized my lochs and for the first time in years, i liked what i saw: the wavy and curly strands of my strong resilient hair. they spike out in unique, unrestrained and unruly patterns in every direction, with no direction. my hair is absolutely beautiful. long and strong.

it takes so long for women, who are always hating different aspects of our selves, personality and body to find things to love about ourselves. we are too busy internalizing media images and what other people have told us all our lives. two older aunts who had come to visit baby GG, on two separate occasions, both told me they thought i was getting fat! what? i just gave birth 6 weeks ago. i guess they expected me to shrink back to size in a month. i admit their unrealistic expectations and comments shook me up a bit. thank God I have a great family to help me refocus on what's more important in life.

thank God for my freckles and my strong hair and my birthmarks and flaws.

what i'm NOT loving these days is the dark centimeter-long keloid scar that is left on my hand from the time i accidentally stabbed myself with a steak knife this winter.

well....about that...um... let's just say that i will never ever attempt to open a jar with a steak knife again! sheesh! i certainly did not need to get this scar to teach me that lesson.
