renewed faith in neighbors

okay, i've complained about my neighbors before for not being warm and receptive to me and the family and/or ignoring us as they walk past our home on their way to the town park which is one block south of our home.

but this morning while taking an afternoon nap, I hear a door bell ring and by the time I put on a robe and tie up my hair and run to the door, the person who rang is gone, but there is ANOTHER PRESENT on the door. It's from one of our wonderful neighbors who just learned we had another baby.

This is the 2nd gift for the baby from a neighbor (albeit my really nice ones who we talk to all the time and are closer with). Last year, our neighbor to the rear donated $100.00 to my nonprofit and the other immediate ones are warming up to us, albeit 5+years later. And....I've gone to a couple of parties at the home of another neighbor who has children who attend the same school as Cboy.

Since it looks like we may be here longer than we had wanted, it's great feeling to finally being able to connect and interact with our neighbors on a personal level. We had been walking around with a chip on our shoulder on account of those less than friendly ones who do not live on our block but traverse our street on their way to the park, that we have been unwilling to open up to our obviously friendly and open nearby neighbors.

I would so organize a dinner party for the neighbors...um...if I could cook, and wasn't on savings mode...an um didn't fear being able to balance kids while having a dinner party. Maybe a backyard barbeque this spring will be a good solution! hmmm

the backyard bbq sounds perfect! i've been meaning to invite my "new" neighbors over since they moved in (um, over a YEAR ago). i took them baked goods over the holidays b/c that was all i could manage. i just may bite your bbq idea!
