Wednesdays Coffee Folly: What's in a name?

IT'S BACK: After a brief two-week hiatus, the Coffee folly has made a return. Now for three months only, read two coffee follies and get the third one FREE!
-------------------------------------------

Took Jarrod to the doc for allergies yesterday. Again, I winced when the nurse called him in "Jah-Rod", she said placing the stress on the second syllable. WRONG! It's Jarrod as in "Jared". Flashed her my half smile. Didn't bother to correct it. Just scorned myself internally for not spelling his name Jared on the birth certificate.

Figures, *sigh*

You would think that a woman with a name like JJ= legally Jeneba (pronounced like with the same stress like Jennifer, not like Geneva) ...

and a guy named Dave (not David. That's a Caribbean thing. To give your kids nicknames as formal names. *shrug*His sis is not Margaret, but Peggy, just the nickname)...

who both had to spend their ENTIRE LIVES correcting people or just swallowing it up when people mispronounce their names would NOT subject their offsprings to such doom.

You would THINK, RIGHT? Noooooooooo.

We name our first Caleb, pronounced Kal-leb , not like it normally would be pronounced CA-leb as in the biblical name.

And then you see the issue I'm having with Jarrod. Why didn't we select the "Jared" version of that name or spell Caleb's name like Kaleb? Because we like to add unnecessary minor, but still extra, stress to our lives.

I think we are Name Drama Queens and Kings - eh hem tho Dave always corrects me, "THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A DRAMA KING!"

"head, shoulders, knees and toes" with my brother, their uncle SB, at the Baltimore Harbor where we took my mom for Mother's day.

If we were the Reverend Run's family from the MTV Reality TV Series, "Run's House", SB would be JoJo, my sis Adama (below) would be Angela and I'd be Vanessa. My other sis, Hawa (above), would have to be Diggy. She doesn't mind being the boy. Rudy from The Cosby show was supposed to be cast as a boy and Hawa loves the Cosby show!

Seriously, these chics swear they are models! LOL!

Yup, you would think. But no.

My full name is Yemisrach. I have been called one too many times yemiscrotch. ha ha ... ha ha... humm not funny!

Our son's name is Lisan. People pronounce it Lee(as in Bruce Lee)san which is wrong. Ahem, it is actually LEsan.

Oh well.
